I make this soup in crockpot often and love it! I do omit potatoes and substitute cauliflower florets for Keto friendly soup. It is delicious either way! Lots of black pepper and red pepper flakes for this old girl! Thanks for recipe!

First time making this soup and we are very pleased with the flavors. I agree a lot of the flavor comes from the type and amount of sausage/kielbasa used. Also browning the meat is very important.I will be making it again because it certainly made a good quantity! I used freshbwhole kielbasa and boiled for about 5 minutes and scooped off the fat. Left them in the bottom of the large pot... did not cut them... left them whole. I used apple cider vinegar to replace acid that would have been kraut. Using cabbage made for a crunchier experience.... and better leftovers. So, after adding the chicken broth, carrots, celery seed instead of celery, bigger chunks of vedalia onions, and onion powder, garlic powder, roasted dried garlic slices, and cooking on medium for an hour... little spoon of sugar and dill weed spice.... the results were sweet, meaty and abundantly tasty.

Yes I made it, tonight. The recipe was easy to follow. I loved it, although Italian sausage was one lb of hot, and one lb of sweet. The hot, was a little too hot, I did not add potatoes. I ate it for supper, by the third bite I was used to the burn. I used a whole head of cabbage, and caraway seeds, I will use a little more caraway. I did not use heavy cream. I use regular green cabbage in my soup, but you can use any kind of cabbage that you like. Red cabbage or savoy cabbage would be great substitutions in this soup. Or, you can use a combination of different types of cabbage.
I used brats that were uncooked and in their casing in this recipe, but there are so many different kinds of sausage that you can use. Already cooked smoked sausage, polish sausage, spicy/sweet/ mild Italian sausage, or even ground sausage are great choices. Use the type of sausage that you like. Uncooked sausage will impart more seasonings into the cabbage soup, so you may need to increase your seasonings if you are using a cooked sausage.

If you want to double the recipe like I did in the video, simply double the ingredients and increase the sauté time to 10 minutes when you are browning the sausage and cabbage so the cabbage wilts enough to fit the remaining ingredients.
Set Instant Pot to sauté and allow to preheat for 2 minutes. Add oil, onion and celery; sauté 5 minutes. Add carrots and kielbasa; sauté 3 additional minutes. Add cabbage, chicken stock, water, pasta, salt, pepper, thyme, bay leaves and tomatoes.
