Dead Island is a new action-adventure horror video game created by Techland. The open world, first-person perspective of the game was designed to give players full reign to explore and battle zombies with melee weapons, firearms and even explosives. The storyline is pretty standard for a zombie apocalypse: A virus appears that turns all humans into ravenous monsters who attack any living thing on sight. If you're lucky, you'll be able to escape this hellhole and venture back into the civilized world where humans still want your head for dinner. The Dead Island downloadable version is about six times larger than its retail counterpart. The downloadable edition is a downloadable client that allows players to continue playing on a secondary computer. One can download the client from the Steam, Impulse and GOG.com websites. The retail edition is essentially a DVD version of the game which requires installation of the game onto the hard drive of a computer. This allows users to play immediately on any computer of their choice without having to carry around their disc copy or enter registration codes after reinstalling Windows. The digital copy includes:The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions features two DLC packs: "Dead Island Riptide" and "Dead Island Retro Revenge". The first pack, named "Dead Island Riptide" features features the original Dead Island, Dead Island: Survivor Stories and Dead Island: Ignition. The second pack, named "Dead Island Retro Revenge", features Dead Island, Dead Island: Survivor Stories and all of the additional content added in the other DLC packs. The first DLC pack is available free of charge to all players who purchased "Dead Island". This includes those who purchased it on Steam and those who purchased it from retail outlets. This DLC requires the purchase of a separate download code. The second DLC pack is available to all players who purchase "Dead Island Riptide". This includes those who purchase a new retail copy. This DLC is a "free" download code included in the retail disc. This would change the overall length of development time from 10 months to 20 months. In the official Dead Island Facebook group, it was confirmed that there were no plans for a retail version at this time, unlike "Dead Island".
